    Geoffrey Palmer

The actor Geoffrey Palmer has died, aged 93. I didn’t realise that he was as old as that. I remember him well in the old sitcom Butterflies and especially in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, one of my all time favourite comedies. A very good actor and by all accounts, a really decent bloke. I also remember some years ago walking past him on Union Square, San Francisco, my wife said ‘did you see who that was....’? RIP

    Clint Eastwood, very tall.

He was a familiar face on many programme's and series. I used to call him ode Sponna faerce because he had a face like a bag of spanners.
Seen him in loads of programme's but never saw him smile once.
If he was like that in real life he must have been an absolute joy to have a pint with.

He was, by all accounts, a very funny (as in humorous, not peculiar) man. He delivered some killer lines in his comedy roles.

    A genius actor.......I loved him.

    His always slightly p I s s e d off demeanour was beautifully played.

As the 50 year old “father” of 17 year old Nicholas Lyndhurst in Butterflies in 1977 he was fabulous.

With Judy Dench in As Time Goes By his comedy timing was perfection.

A very, very fine actor and I will long enjoy his marvellous back catalogue.

    RIP Geoffrey.

I particularly remember him as Field Marshall Haig on Blackadder goes forth. A strict general who ordered battles from the comfort of his own front room, and he advised Blackie to pretend to be insane by sticking two pencils up his nose and some underpants on his head lol.
Two other roles of his which stand out were as a much put upon Editor of a bad tacky newspaper in Hot metal. And he was the senior German official who wanted to escape with the British soldiers in Stalag luft.
