Barnsley FC Commercial Manager been made redundant now
He’s this guy if you didn’t know .......
Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Leech as the Club’s new Commercial Manager as we prepare for our return to the Sky Bet Championship.
Ian joins the Club from South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday, where he spent 12 successful years working as their Corporate Sales Manager.
Ian has been the driving force behind substantial growth commercially for the Owls and is now looking forward to bringing more success off-the-field here at Oakwell. Ian will be pivotal in maintaining relationships with our valued Club partners whilst also looking to develop new opportunities with other companies and organisations.
On joining the Reds, Ian commented "This is a forward thinking Club with a very bright future and I’m really excited to get going and continuing what has been a successful period both on and off-the-field. I’ve had my first week at Oakwell this week and there is a great atmosphere around the place; it’s an extremely positive environment at the moment and it bodes well for the season ahead. I’m looking forward to getting out there and meeting the fans and Club Partners over the coming weeks!”
On securing Ian Leech as the Club’s new Commercial Manager, Reds Acting Chief Executive Linton Brown commented “I’m delighted to have Ian on board - he represents a great addition to our team here at Oakwell. To have someone of his calibre and experience working behind the scenes at the Club is fantastic and we’ve already spoken about some really exciting commercial opportunities off-the-field.”
On behalf of everyone at Barnsley Football Club we would like to welcome Ian to Oakwell and wish him well in his new role.
Hope the lad gets fixed up soon , good luck Ian .
Linton Brown wtfweers he now ????
Think we will be “enlightened “ more by his replacement. Probably an intern from the U.S of A who was Daynes first choice. Or a member of “The Family”
Sorry for Ian, and as Animal said, Hope he gets fixed up.......
The “Will, and enthusiasm” just drains away weekly for Football in general.
I could make this easily political and say a bloke has lost his livelihood when there's a furlough scheme still available and an ownership who have £9bn between em .
That's seemingly the world we now live in on Grove Street and beyond .
I guess I'm wasting my time in putting forward that line of thought .
How last year am I ? .
No mate. It’s not Last year, it’s called compassion. But we know that all the PR spin about “Caring Club” etc is cr@p. Hence my comment as regards who will be his replacement. If it was for financial reasons then there is a furlough scheme, and our club should be ashamed to not use it to protect people’s jobs. I suspect there will be thousands of business in the UK, and indeed the world who use this Covid situation for their own agendas.
You'd imagine given the club have always had a commercial manager ever since I can remember that the job hasn't become redundant but the person has which means others have to pitch in alongside their other duties .
That's what the governments furlough scheme was meant to protect , the job will become viable again when the pandemic is over or we return to some kind of normality .
There's absolutely no reason that I can think of that Ian couldn't have been placed on furlough rather than be made redundant .
This seems to be a particularly callous decision to say the least but sadly unsurprising too .
The lack of posts on this thread apart from your good self and ESR tend to suggest that these things don't matter anymore sadly .
Or perhaps they may have seen this as an opportunity to get rid because maybe he wasn't that good at his job?
I’m being very careful with my words here.
I’ve no idea what’s actually gone off to bring this situation about so can’t really comment.
We may perhaps get an official statement and possibly a full paragraph from Oakwell in the near future.
A 21 word statement or maybe more?
