Sam Allardyce managed both us and Palace as have Roy Hodgson, Alan Pardew and Tony Pulis all in the last 9 years. All British managers in an era of overseas managers.

Both clubs have strong community bonds, very much ‘old fashioned football clubs’ rather than brands. Both historically known as good footballing clubs who have regularly outperformed where they should be but also have both been up and down since money became more influential.

Both clubs have traditional grounds and have clubs with more spending power on their doorsteps. Both have great records of producing new local talent, often to the benefit of ‘the big six’.

Just a pity I can’t stand the club which given our similarities is a bit of a surprise really.
