    The Yorkshire Ripper Netflix

Me and my wife watched the series last night, what a complete mess the police made of the case.
He had begun by making attacks on women that weren't fatal, the original Ripper would have started the same way, and the victims gave good descriptions of the attacker.
Even one of the survivors gave a photofit that was spot on as late as 1977.
The chief inspector said he didn't trust the reliability of photo fits. Even Sutcliffe's workmates called him the Ripper when they saw the picture and he sometimes cheerfully answered to it.
Sutcliffe was interviewed by the police NINE times during the killings.
The police thought they were after a Geordie with an hatred for prostitute's even though survivors told them he had a Yorkshire accent. Not all of the victims were prostitute's, he was an opportunity killer.
He pleaded insanity but was found not to be insane.
It begs the question, would a sane man have done what he did?

Being from Yorkshire and visiting there regularly through the Ripper period I can remember how real the fear was.

Most of us fell for the “Wearside Jack” hoax tapes and letters Des, I think everyone wanted them to be real.

The biggest problem in the 70’s was no computerisation which meant they had to use a card system to store info and no DNA testing.

He’d never have lasted as long in this day and age.

In Yorkshire we also spawned The Black Panther and his first killing was half a mile from the home I was born into in Harrogate and opposite my first school.

He then killed at Langley Green and shot that guard at Dudley Freightliner depot before kidnapping Lesley Whittle from Highley.

Because of the Harrogate/West Midlands connection my dad’s workmates called him The Black Panther and in a strange quirk of fate they looked uncannily alike.

My dad laughed it off in the way the Ripper did but the cold hard truth was that my dad was never interviewed by the police but he should’ve been, nobody dobbed him in in the way they should’ve done.

I think i would’ve made a good serial killer and I certainly think I could get away with a single murder.

I told my missus that I’d see her off by her having a fatal “slip” whilst on a remote cliff top walk in wet, windy weather.

I’m a bundle of joy to live with.

I suppose hindsight is a wonderful thing but the clue's Sutcliffe left were glaringly obvious.
The Police dismissed the witnesses statements of a Yorkshire accent and the photofit that could have been none other, even though they had interviewed him nine times and had him in Manchester on the day of a murder there.
