Have You Ever Been On TV?

    In a background shot?

    Interviewed?

I was once interviewed in Solihull about The Falklands in the months before the war but I made a t w a t of myself because at that stage I’d never heard of them?

Yes but I never saw it.

Interviewed with my brother live on At the Races prior to racing from Punchestown on the first day of the festival. Asked about where we were from, how many times I had been (5 times), what we liked about the festival and asked for one tip for the day (my brothers won at about 3/1 mine got beat by a couple of lengths).

We were just asked if we were ok to do it just before the interview started (we were sat with a couple of pints of Guinness in the Guinness tent) so didn’t have time to phone anyone to get them to record it so have no record.

I appeared on the Late Late Breakfast Show in the early 80's. I was asked by the BBC to co-ordinate a show from one of our ferries from Dover to Calais. They wanted to show various unusual methods of crossing the Channel. I had a link with Noel Edmonds during the show. One of the funniest things was when I had to meet Bucks Fizz in Dover who were going to perform on the crossing. I had arranged a few cabins for them during the crossing. They were fine apart from Jay Aston who was a miserable stuck up cow. It was a bit of a lumpy day and when I asked where Jay was on the return crossing, they told me that she was still in the cabin honking up down the bog. That made my day!

I have been in the background a couple of times when I was marshalling on the women’s tour of Britain cycle race.

I was interviewed on TV in Los Angeles in 1978 on a bus that I was touring the States in. I can’t really remember much about that interview, had probably had a few.....! I just recall sitting in the lounge of the bus with a microphone and camera in my face!

I once did a TV show sitting next to Nicolas Witchell and Sue Carpenter. Consummate professionals to see how quickly they put their game faces on. First question they asked had me flummoxing around they had to do about five re-takes ... finally I relaxed and got into a flow ... but quite challenging when you are in a studio under the lights .... with the Production crew staring at you from the dark beyond ...
