    Derek Kevan

Mick mentioned him in a thread. My first Albion hero when I was very young, mainly because he won games on his own.
Our most prolific striker ever, in games/goals ratio. Also scored eight times in 14 appearances for England.
The Russians gave him the monika The Tank on our unbeaten tour there. We played total football, but Kev just went straight through them.
Wouldn't mind him upfront for us these days.

One of my heroes as a boy, along with Ronnie Allen and Ray Barlow.

What an attacking trio: Bobby Robson, Ronnie Allen and Derek Kevan! We can only dream of a strike force like that.

My first hero too. Remember him scoring 5 in 6-2 win over Everton and also a hat trick in a 7-1 win at St Andrews! Great days

I’ve mentioned before that when my dad was 14 he played against Kevan, dad was from Harrogate and Kevan from just up the road in Ripon.

Dad’s said the game was even apart from Kevan who scored all 7 in a 7-0 win.

My old man said that Kevan was a huge physical specimen at that age with a quarter of an inch of stubble, he thought the other sides manager had decided to play!

Dad said Derek was streets ahead of everyone else on the pitch and the best player he ever played with or against.

If he were still here I'd play him at 85 years old over our current crop.

Scored a hattrick in my first ever match. So did Francis Lee.

A big name from another era. An England international who waited his turn for a trim at Gordon's in Church Vale, walked to the ground on match days, and sometimes joined in a kickabout in a park on Sunday afternoons. How times change.

Ex Albion player Colin “Zico” Anderson used to play indoor 6 a side with me and my mates up at The Thorns during summer months.

Completely unremarkable, apart from the power in his shooting you’d have had no idea he was a pro footballer.
