1 is right. He should have been given longer or at least time to sober up.
2 is debatable. None of us know the circumstances.
3 is certainly right if that offer was ever made to us. Which I very much doubt.

And he'd probably have got Grant on the cheap but towards the end of his loan he wasn't much chop as for the wages required who knows. How is he doing at Lincoln?
