    Leaving On A Jet Plane

Great song by John Denver and so popular in beer Keller’s and in packed holiday bars!

Wish Sawyers and Livermore would leave on a Jet Plane too!

I like this John Denver version with Mamma Cass.

By all accounts Denver was an obnoxiously difficult ****.

I agree! I was actually inspired to go to San Francisco by the Scott McKenzie song and wow what a time!! I bumped into the West Brom team trying to book the day trip to Alcatraz as they were out there for pre-season!

‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’ was originally entitled ‘Babe, I hate to go’, written in 1967. John Denver’s real name was John Deutschendorf Jr, and was born in Roswell, New Mexico, the location of the infamous Roswell UFO/flying saucer incident. He changed his name to ‘Denver’ after the state capital of his favourite US state, Colorado. He was killed in a flying accident in an experimental plane over Monterey Bay but at the time he was disqualified from flying owing to a succession of convictions for drunk driving, although there was no evidence of him having had any alcohol prior to his fatal flight. Maybe some stuff in there for you when you’re next in a pub music quiz; if we’re ever allowed to go into pubs again.

Peter, Paul and Mary had a hit with it in 1970.
Denver was a very underated musician.
Country Roads is my favourite for obvious reasons.
