It’s in shocking condition and something we’re not used to.
The only thing I can think is it’s more a case of stopping the opposition playing a passing game which give us the advantage with our present style of football.
Why is the Oakwell pitch just about the worst in the Championship. I no longer live in the Barnsley area and I know that there has been some dreadful weather in the area but that must also be true of the likes of Huddersfield and Rotherham and their pitches seem so much better. I am still a Reds Reserved plus member and am watching the streamed matches on ifollow. I have been disappointed with the technical standard of the football recently but I can see that it is not easy to play an attractive passing game on such a poor surface. I am not critical of the head coach or the players and I welcome our position in mid table. I just wish that my friends where I now live did not make disparaging remarks on the state of our pitch. That also applies to visiting teams.

seems that when we striped the pitch at the end of t the grass to grow he season there was only five weeks for the grass to grow, not enough time for it to bind, seems like most of the grounds this season
bloody laptop anyway 5 weeks growing time
I believe Huddersfield have a part grass/ part synthetic pitch Mike because they also laik Rugby at the John Smith's stadium. Rotherham have had lots of postponements which means their pitch has had less games laiked on it so its bound to be in better nick.
The oakwell pitch is very poor it has to be said. The weather has been dreadful over the last 2 months and the lack of a pre season hasn't helped matters. However, it may not be only that. The pitch was also in a state at this time last year just before lockdown and the suspension of football.
To hazard a guess, It could be to do with the maintenance dispute between the owners of Oakwell and the consortium. If maintenance costs are being kept to a bare minimum, then instead of hiring a grounds man, they may be chucking a 10 spot at the local 14 year old schoolboy gardner to run the mower over it occasionally![]()
At least it brings back nice memories of World Cup '66 though. Seeing our very own Oakwell pitch with a bad Bobby Charlton style comb over.![]()
Not just the pitch - while watching the match take note of the ground.
A pot of paint wouldn’t go amiss.
The owners are broadcasting a poor image.
