If we had designs.... We better rethink it

Of going with the idea of bringing players in from the under 23s as a future strategy, we need to rethink it. I'm afraid tonight highlighted that none of them are good enough....

Glennon, Dunne, Benson, Mumbongo... all not good enough. To be honest, I dont think McNeill is up to it either.

You can also add Stephens and Jay-Rod to the list as well. Recent Dyche additions, both arent up to it either.

If by some miracle we do stay up, I dont see relying on potential gems from the youth as being a longer term successful strategy. I think were in need of an overhaul in the summer.

The lack of investment from window to window is seriously starting to tell on our squad. Trying to get away with spending the least amount possible is going to come back to haunt us eventually.

It already has Cornholme.If you have been watching the performances this season they have been much worse than the previous seasons in the PL.

The problem is Cornholme as I have alluded to previously on far too many other occasions, it's a quantum leap from the Development Squad to become an established EPL player.

Benson and Dunne might make it, Glennon and Mumbongo might make it, but they need at least a full season in the Championship out on loan.

It is simply impossible for an EPL club to buy one totally crap player to reinforce the first team squad and spend one million pounds in two transfer windows on Dale Stephens.

I visit loads of other Burnley fan forums and in all sincerity I do not think I could find one Clarets fan who could take exception to this sentence: "The lack of investment from window to window is seriously starting to tell on our squad. We might get away with it this season, but next season we damned well won't.

Could not agree more BT. The big question that follows from this is what the hell are our new owners and management going to do about it? outside EPL is grim with no fans and lower income so staying where we are should be priority number 1. To do it means getting some serious dosh spent on this team and recruiting 6/7 players in the summer. Not all need be immediate 1st choice but they need to be younger, with some pace and quality. I cannot see this happening and I think most fans know that hence the massive downbeat feel there is over the future.

It was worrying to watch todays match. The impact of the eight changes resulted in a team that looked like they haven't played much together (and in fairness, thats probably the case too). Equally, most of the youngsters out there did well or at least decent in earlier cup-games and that does raise questions, doesn't it?

I understand that players cannot be judged by one game, because we have seen them play better.

We can agree that mr.Woodgate out-manouvered Dyche. He took a Dyche on Dyche and incredibly simple: just stop the crosses. Half of our players today weren't PL-players (at least yet), but the most worrying part was that a Championship-team without their best players (sold, rested of injured) had full control. I could almost draw similarities to the City-game or even MK Dons. What we witnessed today was just how simple it is to crack the Burnley-code (or Dyche-code if you prefer).

Even when Barnes, Lowton, Westy and big M'bongo came on, we couldn't get past them. McNeill is still young and has given us joyful moments, but our left side reminded me of the Chelsea-game. I understand Hudson-Odoi or Reece James, both quality players, but today they met a Championship-lad and he could do whatever he wanted.

I agree with you that we're going to struggle this year, but even more next year.

I thought exactly the same Kris. It looked like we were getting into that game with Westwood shoring up our midfield and we looked to be causing them some problems. This leads me to think that in our next match we will revert back to Dycheball.

I’m a little reluctant to criticise the young lads as I feel that they are stopped from expressing themselves playing within a structure.

I’ve never played pro football but I recognise when we’re overrun centrally ( my position centre mid ). It would have took me two minutes to work out we need to change shape to counter act the opposition especially if the extra man was gifted like Billing , by the same token I watched with interest our lack of flexibility to communicate this , though Dyche should see from the side lines.

Let’s see what happens in n the next game how we set up if it’s to win the game / the longer it goes the more I think this will end in a disaster with fans falling out with Dyche.
