My uncle,Frank Horne was a lifelong trombone player,Rawtenstall Astoria,Blackpool,Musical Director of Bacup Theatre,regularly on the Turf,ran Water Band for years.Did you know him?

Started learning the piano at 7 years old, took up the trombone at 11 in the Boys' Brigade band and joined the RAF as a trombone player, aged 19, in 1966. Changed instrument to BBb Bass and learned Double Bass and Bass Guitar, which I still play.
I'm sorry barrie, but I didn't know your uncle but, as I said, I moved away in 1966 and have never lived nearer than 100 miles from the Turf.
I have a big interest in big bands, soul music, jazz and classics but no real interest with brass bands because too many were obsessed with competitions. Having said that, there are many fine musicians who have made the top of the tree that started off in brass bands.
