Now, I've worked from home a bit and discipline can easily go if you're not being monitored, although not a problem for me as my work ethic is so strong but if you have hundreds of people working for home on low wages, how motivated are they going to be to keep making phone calls. You need to drop this stuff about the app, how many people actually downloaded one, when they were only compatible with the latest generations of Android and Apple anyway.

And I'll remind you again, the Scottish NHS is not devolved, it was never part of the UK.
I have previously posted this information on Dundee Mad but I will try again.
Last October a friend of mine who lives on Islay had to travel to Liverpool for a family funeral. Prior to leaving Islay he downloaded the NHS Scotland Test and Trace app. He stopped at a service station on the M6 for a meal en route to Liverpool and tried to use his NHS Scotland Test and Trace app at the motorway service station. It did not work as it can only be used in Scotland. My friend had to write his contact details on a piece of paper and hand it to the manager of the restaurant. So much for modern technology. There is no substitute for the old fashioned method - pen and paper!

I'm sorry lockdown is wrong......it should never ever happen again.
I'd have hated lockdown in my 20s as life was great, bit of money, few responsibilities, holidays, pub after work most nights. Now I'm honestly not that bothered, probably why I'm not so interested in these libertarian values of yours. Most people haven't experienced any differences during lockdown, those on minimum wage, on the breadline, struggling to bring up families, needing foodbanks, nothing has changed for them, working 80 hour weeks, no treats, no holidays. That's where the likes of Hitchens fails, he has no interest in these people, which are about 1/4 of the country but don't read the Mail.

I hate to keep nipping at you but honestly nothing of that is remotely how the app works. Every hospitality venue was expected to keep a record of visitors, some used pen and paper, some had QR codes which should have been mandatory imo. This was completely separate to the apps, which can function anywhere in the world because they are just apps. The problem is, the Scottish app wouldn't talk to the English app because they were different technologies. I wouldn't try to find the result of Dundee's game on an app which only covered the bundesliga, would I.

The people who have lost out are the ones who have formed a limited company and then taken the bulk of their salary as a dividend to reduce the amount of tax and national insurance that they pay. It is a perfectly legal scheme until a national lockdown comes along and they cannot work.
Furlough is a specific term which usually relates to employees being put out into the long grass, imported from America. It does not cover businesses being given grants. Furlough for employees was between the employee, the employer and the UK government, namely HMRC who handled the payments. Grants for businesses in Scotland were handled by the Scottish govt, but not directly, the business had to apply to their local council who determined if they met the rules. As you say, the self-employed have enjoyed tax advantages in the past and now trying to prove their income is near on impossible. If you've only paid about £1k tax for the past 5 years, getting a grant for £10k seems a bit of a stretch.

So by 'bribing' the few she keeps the many onside?

There is a very simple solution instead of spending a fortune on the Test and Trace which does not work throughout the U.K. due to a lack of ‘joined up thinking’.
People should have their temperature taken before they enter any shop, business premises, GP surgery, dentists or public building throughout the whole of the UK. If it was above a permitted level they would be told to immediately get a Covid-19 test and self isolate until they get their result.
Last April some of the prominent natives on Islay were very jumpy about Coronavirus (that is what it was called back then) being imported into the island. There was even talk about some of them standing on the pier at Port Ellen and Port Askaig and if they did not recognise anyone coming off the Calmac these people would be told to immediately travel back to Kennacraig.
If the staff in the Calmac ferry terminal at Kennacraig took the temperature of every person who arrived to sail on the ferry to Islay, anyone whose temperature was above certain limit would be prevented from sailing and told to immediately get a coronavirus test.
There would be no exemptions for local Islay residents. Every passenger would have to have their temperature taken before boarding the ferry sailing to Islay.
    You've lost it completely

Imagine living in France in the early 40s and saying " I'm not so interested in libertarian values, the resistance can go **** itself, thon boy wee the mouser isnae that bad, I don't notice the difference"

As i said to my 82 year old neighbour who said something similar to me "it ain't really about you it's about the generations below and the ones to come, you have had your life"

I'm sorry you feel the way you do but I think liberty is a hill worth dying on, I'm glad so many thought so when the man with the funny walk was goose stepping round Europe.

    Tee off....10.18.🙂

No disagreeing about lockdown being wrong but it seemed to limit the damage in china.I also think many of our "restrictions"are due to the failure by both governments regarding timelines how to do track and trace properly(like south korea).

The pandemic plan for 3 decades was to shield the I'll and vulnerable.....abandoned by panic merchants, control freaks and mad modellers.....every single model wrong.

How many deaths due to lockdown now and in the future we won't really know.....sickens me.

As I said its scaremongering by both governments, other countries are moving on.
The saddest thing for me is those who "think" they know better than others and revel when they "think" they get proved right.
What about taiwan? another unbelievable country or just one who learnt lessons in dealing we these viruses?
