    Allardyce

I wasn’t happy with the appointment wanting to stick with Bilic and was worried about the style of play. However I am 100% on side now, his press conferences have been good and accurate, the style of play has been ball to feet and at times very good, he has with limited funds improved the squad in the right places. Convinced as I am that we are down I now hope that he will stay with us.
Interested in others views and if in disagreement who would you realistically prefer and why?

I am with you on this one Dave and like you I wasn’t happy when he was appointed either.

We have 13 players, including the 4 loanees out of contract at the end of the season from a squad of 27. Of those I would only be bothered about keeping Bartley and Townsend even in the Championship. Of course I would like the loanees to stay but can’t see that happening once we are relegated.

For me Lonergan, Peltier, Ivanovic, shouldn’t have been employed in the PL and can go for me. Grosicki and Gibbs seem to be wanting to go, so let them. That just leaves Edwards and Robson-Kanu who I am relaxed about either way. Still would only be squad players even in the Championship.

I don’t trust Dowling to get recruitment right but I do trust Allardyce to do it. He seems a good judge of what a club needs and I think him on his own has a better chance of keeping us in the Championship than Dowling plus a new Manager. He MAY even have a chance of getting us top 6 in the Championship but that is as good as I think it will be next year.

I fear the worst if Allardyce goes and we are left at the mercy of Dowling and the team from China! Unfortunately I am 70 this year and have painful memories of the slippery slope down the leagues. I feel we are potentially at the top of that slope now. I just hope we manage to get off it before it is too late.

Unexpectedly, I also find myself agreeing with both of you. I wasn't overjoyed at Sam's appointment but I am beginning to warm to him. It's a myth that he plays Pulis like hoofball. Yes, he believes in a sound defence and clean sheets but on last night's showing you cannot deny that we played some attractive football. If his recruitment, with the four he brought in January, is anything to go on he certainly knows what he's doing. My opinion is that we should stick with him next year as I feel that he is our best chance of a return to the Premiership.

We’ve won two games under Allardyce, the Brighton one being very lucky indeed, yes the football has improved with the loan signings but they will be gone along hopefully with the likes of Lonergan, Peltier, Kipre, Gibbs, Sawyers, Livermore, Phillips, The Welsh International, Ivanovic and a few more.
Time for a younger coach, fresh players and a new start

Agree, we were lucky to beat Brighton but on the other side of the coin we were unlucky not to beat United, Burnley and not to get at least a draw against Everton last night.

We’re lucky to have Fat Sam.

People need to be careful what they wish for.

This “exciting young coach” is likely to lead to a Michael Appleton/Darren Moore/James Shan type appointment!

It's romantic to talk of a new young coach and a bunch of fresh new players. We can't hold onto our academy kids even the good ones. Allardyce knows how to construct a team to compete, of course he like anyone else coming to the Albion is hampered by financial constraints. Also it pains me to say it having been born and raised in winson green/handsworth we can't compete with london/manchester/newcastle even liverpool for places to live.

I really didn't want Sam either but credit where its due, he's slowly turning the ship around. Loved watching us yesterday, pushed Everton way back and if it wasn't for a world class save we would have been 1-0 up in the first minute. Diagne has had some bad luck. Really like his attitude and strength. That header looked goal bound all the way and when Pickfords leading arm missed it I couldn't believe he managed to palm it away with the other.

Who would you realistically like to see come in? Also have to bear in mind whoever it is they won’t have an open cheque book. I would see anyone else as a gamble and is it worth taking one with our current owners?

I would like to see Thomas Frank (Brentford) and his staff at the Albion, new ideas, his staff seem to have an eye for a player
