Wycombe Wanderers v Barnsley Match Thoughts

The mother of all banana skins awaits us tomorrow evening at Adams Park .

Despite their lack of championship quality Wycombe are extremely difficult to play against and aren't afraid to be shytehouses if they need to be .

This has all the makings of a feisty encounter and we need to be on our guard and not get drawn in to a yellow or red card frenzy .

I'd bring Halme in to the middle of the park alongside Mowatt just to provide that little bit more physicality and height .

Any front three starting will do for me just as long as it's not the one who started on Saturday against Bournemouth .

Play anything like we are capable and we will win the game .

It's as simple as that tomorrow night .

Sh1thouse game this, certainly not one for the purist. I've absolutely no doubt about our attitude and effort but I also acknowledge that Wycombe are a very difficult team to play against who always give it 100%. Hopefully our extra quality tells and we win 1-0 in a drab encounter. Get the 3 points and get the feck out of there

They have physicality and sh1thousery.....but so do we but with added skill and adaptability.
Personally I think we will control the game from minute 1 and come away with a comfortable win!

    A scruffy 0-1 I hope.

    Here’s what Valérien Ismaël says:

“We have the usual guys available, everyone is feeling good.” The Frenchman told us.

“But for sure, the game against Wycombe will be another challenge, a different game to prepare for. Their manager and their team have a big fighting mentality, a clear identity, and it will be another tough game for us.

“It will be about fighting, about winning duels. But we’ve shown that we can compete in this way.

“Our mentality must start on Wednesday how it finished at Bournemouth. That’s my expectation.”

“We have come such a long way that we must not now give it up without a fight. That’s what I made clear to the guys at half-time last Saturday.

“But we are in a new week, with new challenges ahead.

“We are never satisfied. We stay hungry, we keep moving and look for our next step forward.

“That is Wycombe and it will not be easy. We respect them and know that we must be perfect in our mentality to get another three points.”

But again, the gaffer was only focused on Wednesday night and the message that to gain further joy, his players need to be switched on right from the get-go at Adams Park.

On Saturday “It was just another Championship game, but yes, it was a big step and we take great confidence from the performance.

“But I must stress, we must play with desire, at that level from the beginning. You cannot play in this league at 80%. You will be punished.

“My job is to make sure that at 7pm on Wednesday my guys are ready to fight from the first minute.”

The big Valbowski is saying all the right things of course, that we must be mentally up for it right from the start etc. But we will just have to wait and see.
It was disappointing seeing Bournemouth and even Middlesbrough easily close the gap last night, so the pressure is back on us.

Play the game on its merits. If Wycombe stand off a bit. Play football. Just keep what we're doing percentage football, playing in the right areas of the pitch and pressing the opposition. Don't over think it.

If we're are to lose our "games without a loss" record, I'd rather do it now than on Saturday. Id rather win both games and I can't see us losing this one to be tbh. We can match and better them anywhere on the park and we're capable of controlling this game whatever their tactics. Although it won't be a walkover I'm confident we'll win, get another 3 points and set us up for Saturday.
