    Council Tax Bills

Well the huge debate on whether NHS workers should have had their pay increased by more than 1% - my view is they should have had a decent pay increase by far more!

My Council Tax bill arrived this morning and these bunch of c unts have increased bills by 3% which is often the case year after year!

Personally I think bills should not be allowed to increase by more than ones salary!! So these NHS workers will feel completely shafted with their 1% whilst many bills go up by 3% plus!!!

Council tax like many things should be a percentage of your annual earnings so it’s fair for everyone!! Bit like speeding fines they should be a percentage of your earnings too - why should someone on 12,000 a year pay the same £100 fine as say Harry Kane on over 200K a week! Pathetic!

Remember the poll tax Al, that was on paper a more equal system and look what happened to that! Income is to easy to fiddle, most self employed folks seem to be able to play the system whereas paye employees carry the bulk of the personal tax burden, hence someone self employed or running a firm could be raking it in dividends but paying themselves a ridiculously low salary and would be well pleased with your idea..

Council Tax billing is so badly handled costing hard pressed councils £millions.

Its administered not by your local council but by a national body up north. When you add value to your home with extra bedrooms etc surely it would be reasonable to expect to pay more CT if the value has greatly increased?

The rules state the Band should increase if major work has been done when the house is sold but this doesn't happen in so many cases.

The last house I extended was in 2010. I bought it in 2010 for £298,000. It was a 2 bed-semi in Band C. I added 2 beds, an en-suite, study, utility and created a kitchen diner. Sold it 9 months later for £485,000. I reckon that pushed it 2 bands or £600pa. 11 years later it's still Band C.

If I look at the Bands in that 1 street of nearly 100 house I reckon half of them are banded too low . That's around £25,000 per year Mid Suss ex DC could claim just from one street. Multiply that up and how much extra could they spend or how much less they could charge others.

I agee. My point though is ( take Kensington and Chelsea ) a very affluent area:

    Band A is £825 per year and Band H ( £2475 ) per year for 20/21

So Band A is most likely a 1 bedroom bedsit and Band H can be a huge property worth 20 million ( David Beckham lives there )

So how the f uck can a person killing themselves in Band A pay a THIRD LESS than a very wealthy person like Beckham etc in Band H. It's absolutely shocking!!! Taxes should be a percentage of an individual persons earnings whether it be 4% on £20,000 or 4% on £500,000. To me that would be fair.

Same scenario with speeding fines i.e 0.5% fine on a person who is earning £20,000 and the same 0.5% on someone earning £500,000. Each individual therefore is hit in the pocket the same!!!

So the rich get richer ( and laugh ) and the poor get poorer!!! So those who said those NHS workers should not get more than 1% pay rise - how would you feel then if your council tax had consistently increased by 3.9%? Very very bitter - I would suspect

I think you mean Band A pays a third of H not a third less.

Band H in Mid Suss ex is around £4000 about a third more. Bet we get less services than Londoners.

Yes that's what I meant 9 goals. But the point made was surely with any tax - individuals should pay the same percentage of their annual earnings? How can someone in Band A on 20K or less pay a third or a quarter less than someone in Band H earning 100K a year plus. Makes no sense!!

Same with fines ( speeding ) to ask a wealthy footballer on 50 grand a week to pay a £100 fine - its a complete piss take. so the fine should be calculated on the same percentage as annual income. The penalty then hits someone on 100K a year just as hard as someone on 15K a year. It's called fairness!

I don’t agree that Council Tax should be linked to your wealth, it should be linked to property value......that’s the only fair way.

Good point Mick! So if a property is 3 million and another property is 100 grand - there should be difference of 30 times the fee to be paid. It's only fair! How a millionaire in Chelsea in a pad of 10 million could be in Band H paying less than 5000 a year is absolutely criminal. If someone gets hammered because of the value of their property and they have no assets ( cash ) then they sell it/down size. Simple!

With the laws in this country - you could live in a 3 million plus property - have no earnings and then claim benefits as your property asset does not come into it.
