True that. I for one didn't want him from the start. But new managers have to win players and fans over which he appeared to have done in part. But the wheels came off after Southampton and its got me wandering if the players knew he was leaving anyway which can have a destabilising effect. He had all the assurances from the board to stay but In the end I suppose fat sam was just another mercenary

Make no mistake, he would have stayed if he thought he was going to be backed. No manager likes to finish on a failure.

My point exactly . However, I am not so sure Big, Fat, Sam would have stayed as he is a short term manager by his own admission. He had a nice little earner for a few months and now he’s off. We are back where we were 4 seasons ago, starting over in the second tier, funny how things have not improved since our new owner and his large wealth was welcomed in.

Make no mistake, he would have stayed if he thought he was going to be backed. No manager likes to finish on a failure.

Of course he would have stayed Des if his package was right and the backing of player investment meant it was pretty certain of promotion at the first attempt meaning a nice fat bonus.

Fat Sam would put out the cones if the money was to his liking!

Without a doubt he would have stayed Des, why would Sam make a statement to the contrary and say anything different to appease a tight wad of an owner. After all, Sam is such a shrinking violet. He got his wad for a few months work and failed, he is now leaving, end of.

Probably because one of the terms of his contract was to say nothing about the club publicly.
This is pretty much standard in all business matters.
