Anderson and Broad are probably still as good as we have got for use in England. But in Australia the Kookaburra ball is not easy to make swing and the largely dry conditions and fast pitches favour brute force pace. Anderson and Broad do not have good records in Australia. Before the start of this season they should have announced their retirement from international cricket at the end of this English summer to the England selectors.

Thus the England selectors could have told them that given such a decision they would not be selected in this English season and they could immediately announce their international retirement.

The England squad in Australia has to have 6 viciously fast bowlers in order that any 4 can be selected in order to give the Convicts no peace.
