Forget all the Scottish b o l l o x......THIS is what character looks like, THIS is what so many sportsmen and people in life generally lack these days.
A hip replacement operation that had to be done twice and four years of battle to get back to playing Wimbledon singles again and to win playing like that was just class.
Just sheer class.

Didn’t watch it, can’t stand tennis but have to admit that Murray is a fighter, the never give up attitude is what puts these blokes on top. It was a pity that another top sportsman didn’t get the chance to win today, Mark Cavendish held up by a big crash denying him getting into the sprint finish at Le Tour de France; there’s always tomorrow, though……..
Strange what some people will find interesting to watch and others can't give it the time of day. I can watch most team sports, football, rugby, Test Cricket and individual sports like tennis, golf etc but if there is one pastime that I find totally unwatchable its Formula 1. Talk about boring. Its like watching Scalextric with some guy shouting and trying to make it exciting and yet I know blokes who are obsessed with it but cannot stand football. Weird.
Totally agree. I find Formula 1 completely boring and just don't understand what people see in watching it. Horse racing, the same, possibly with the exception of the Grand National.
Spot on Mick, anyone who has played tennis (and I was captain of a team for 5 years) knows what guts that takes. I’m amazed he’s still playing at all after that op, especially at that level. Tennis is way above the pressure footballers have. You can’t hide a bad performance behind 10 other players. Everyone sees everything. You’re on your own.
Tennis and Pro Cycling I think are incredible for the sheer endurance of these athletes - Tennis in particular because of the concentration and skill needed to beat opponents, sometimes with the finest of margins. I have zero interest in F1, Cricket or Rugby but football really does flow through my veins - only because my late aunt introduced me to it at an early age & the other disciplines didn't feature with anyone around me.
Although I sell the product I am by no means a tennis fan however, if you went to an event live you’d be amazed at how fast the ball is travelling in real time.
I’ve been on play test days with top county players and a guy that played junior singles at Wimbledon when I worked for Dunlop Sports........you don’t even get a sniff when they serve, these lads can serve at 120mph at times and it’s like waving a racket at fresh air.
It requires terrific coordination and athletic ability to play it well.
I don’t think that any other sport comes close to pro-cycling for endurance and toughness. This years Tour de France is a good example, already there have been some big crashes and most of them get up and carry on, often with blood running down their arms and legs. Geraint Thomas crashed yesterday and dislocated his shoulder, the doctor snapped it back into the socket and G gets back on his bike and carries on! Today, incredible, Mark Cavendish wins his first TdF stage for 5 years, his 31st in all, after years of illness and injuries, what a superstar!
