    English Fan Culture

You really have the best and the worst in your country.

The passion of the fans of our club, but also many others in the UK, is something that just blows me away. It's what makes me love the game. And it's just not the same in most other countries - what you can do as a football culture is something highly unique and without it, the world would be a poorer place.

But the huge amount of badly behaved England fans that have emerged during this year's Euros makes me think that this is also why most Europeans probably didn't want England to win last night.

Intimidating other countries' fans, beating their own fans up in attempting to gatecrash Wembley (???) and fighting the police, booing other countries' national anthems and now racist remarks on social media for their own players.

I know this happens elsewhere too, but to me it doesn't appear to be only a few rotten apples - like all fan groups have - but that the dark side of the culture involves a lot of people?

Not here to cause a fuss, just stating what I'm observing currently.

Yes indeed we have a very large population of highly visible socially ill-adjusted scumbag knocking about.

Happy I moved away many years ago, guess I'm getting soft but the longer I stay away the more disappointing scenes like that yesterday make me feel.

Britain does so many things right/well but always let's itself down.

The yin and yang of being British.

In my experience, these big events tend to suck in ‘types’ that wouldn’t normally pay much attention to football.

I think it’s because of the good part that Hughie mentions, the bad side wants to be involved.

It's hugely depressing. Most countries have their morons but we seem to have disproportionately more...and they're the ones who attract all the attention.

No, but self discipline and respect for yourself and others would be a tidy beginning don't you think?

    Its definately an English thing.

Loud, brazen behaviour with drink does get misinterpreted by foreigners as aggressive when it isn't in most cases.

You have to understand the culture.

It is out of order to push your way into the stadium, but it does show how important football is here. You wouldn't get that shiit at the Olympics.

Besides solving the unemployment problem it would build up a bit of self-respect which is lacking in a lot of those age groups these days.
