    Plymouth Argyle Post Match Thoughts

So we're off and running and the sky isn't falling, the sky isn't falling, in fact we might even be top of the league!

How was the match? Were we good or were Plymouth bad? (I know what gru will say ).How was the match day experience for those who made it to their first live, competitive game since Covid struck?

Keep all your post match thoughts together on this thread please.

How great to watch the game with the fans back in. Solid performance of not with some worrying aspects. The back 3 look solid, Harding mom and as I thought should excel in the division like this. Ike asks Wood great also. Less convinced about both the defensive aspect of midfield and both wing backs from defensive point of view. They cut through too easily at times and relied on back 3 to get us out and think better teams will make us pay.

That said, we have quality all over at this level of they survive the transfer deadline and the three new signings had some promising touches each too. Just a bit disappointed with Oggie and Miller when they were in promising positions but certainly we know Oggie can do much better. Not sure about Miller.

    Harding though.

Wes Harding looked more like Virgil Van Dyke today. And Woody is evergreen. 92nd minute and he’s battling for one on the edge of their box and knocks it out to Fergie, who also looked decent when he came on.

Good game and I like the new No18 Rathbone and I reckon Ferguson is going to be a good 'un for us.

It's looking good so far. We'll see ....

2nd half too deep. would have been punished if they were better than useless. 3pts though.

Pleasant game with nly a couple of threats by Plymouth

Very happy with Perigordmiller who bought a less superior Bordeaux but his company was agreeable. The whiskey he provided with prematch nibbles was excellant!

He said that Harding was our finest player today but I WAS UNSURE AFTER THE WHISKY!

The result was fair! The way we played last season hasn't changed and everyone seemed to know what they were supposed to do.

I said beforehand on another platform that if we started today with the squad tht we had that we'd be ok. Today, with the subs we actually looked more than ok! Our form going into the last 15 minutes looked axciting!

    I love football!

Can't ever remember only 6 teams winning in a league at the first round of matches!

Lots of positives from the performance, a couple of squeaky moments but in going bold there are always going to be downsides somewhere else on the pitch.

    Positives:

Super competitive central midfield, players will have to be on form or you will soon lose your spot.
New signings all looked good. Rathbone on the ball, links the play and gets about the pitch with clever runs. Odoffin looks like a shorter Ajayi, really athletic and will get more chances to shine, promising. Ferguson is quality at this level, experienced, smart, links well, did with Rathbone in particular.
Freddie looks sharp from the off, hungry to score and nice to get him up top with Smudge.
Back 3 pretty solid, dealt with most things, sometimes left exposed due to attacking wing backs, can't blame them.
Attacking wing backs always gave us options going forward, could smother the midfield with bodies, stopped them playing.

    Concerns:

Attacking wing backs leave us exposed sometimes. Games will help them develop the defensive side but it is a small downside of being bold. Can live with it.
Defending set pieces is iffy. We have Woody, Icky and Smudge really. Harding is undersized as a CB to defend them and we don't have a lot of height otherwise (with today's team anyway).
2-0 up with 10 to go, nearly caught on counter because of sending too many up for a corner. Unnecessary risk.

Really positive start, losing Crooks may be a blessing in disguise as we play shorter players, making it more likely we try and get it down and play.

Don't ask me how I watched the game and I won't lie (insert halo here).
