    Hardest achievement

They have been discussing the hardest skill on Talksport this morning.

    147 break in snooker
    9 dart finish
    Perfect hattrick in football
    Hattrick in cricket wickets
    Hole in one in golf
    Six sixes in an over

For me it is 147 because of the length of time and concentration in takes, as well as planning in advance and strategy. I'm not even much of a snooker fan. The 9 dart finish is probably second hardest. As these 2 are all your own work.

Perfect hattricks in football can be part of weak opposition and penalties
Golf hole in one has a huge element of luck
Both cricket ones rely on an element of the opposition batsmen or bowler playing badly

I definitely agree with you regarding the snooker maximum being hardest and the Darts one being 2nd, and as you say the hole in one needs a huge slice of luck, although not now uncommon in any golf tournament.
The fact that the football and cricket hattrick and the 6 sixes in one over are team games is also reliant to a certain degree on luck, but all of the above sporting achievements you have mentioned are all well recieved when they happen, by the crowd watching that particular game/match/ tournament, and make it a bit special. Scum, like you say, snooker all the way due to concentration levels.

As for my choice though, the one that stands out in any sports is the Egg and Spoon race at your annual kids sports day.

The concentration levels are way above snooker as you have several elements to overcome

    1. Opposing parents, not unknown to try to barge into you whilst running down an uneven leg/ankle breaking grass field.
    2. Checking where the opposition actually is as you run along and whilst making sure you don't roll the egg off the spoon.
    3. Making sure you've worn light clothing, it helps with the running.
    4. Watch out for cheats holding their thumb over the egg before they set off and point them out for cheating.
    5. The Very most important rule - Don't come last and embarrass your kid in front of all their classmates.

NB. There is a secret in making sure the egg doesn't roll off and that is to hold the spoon in a downward fashion as though you are pushing it as you run along. It is guaranteed not to fall off. Holding the spoon upright causes the egg to roll side to side and inevitably it will roll off as motion forward rocks it from side to side. Trust this has been of help and has brightened your day.

Got to be six sixes in an over

Meanwhile, Thisara Perera became only the ninth cricketer to smash six sixes in an over and the sixth to do so in domestic cricket. Interestingly, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard are only the three players to achieve this feat in international cricket.

Ronnie O' Sullivan has hit 15, 147's in his career.

On paper I agree with Scum for 1st and 2nd but for professional sportspeople (don’t want to offend any of the 100 genders) are these hard achievements anymore. 147 in snooker happens at nearly all tournaments these days as do 9 dart finishes in darts. Willy Thorne alone has had over a hundred 147 breaks, albeit in practice but still impressive. No doubt Phil Taylor has had hundreds of nine darters, he once had 2 in one match that was being televised live.

Maybe the standard of sports has got so good these feats are no longer anywhere near as hard. People these days are just far more dedicated and disciplined than of previous generations.

In terms of Cricket, Golf and football agree with the others. That said in the final over of the Ashes needing 36 to win, if a batsman hit six sixes it would be the greatest sporting achievement of all time. You don’t hit a 6 off a good googly though and the bowler would send 6 of em down.

What’s people’s best sporting achievements linked to this. I played snooker 3 times a week for about 2 years several years ago, by the time I stopped I’d had numerous fifty plus breaks, my highest being a 78. Some might say that’s not bad after only playing a couple of years!

Gary Sobers was he 1st to hit 6 sixes in an over playing for Nottinghamshire off bowler Malcolm Nash for Glamorgan. That was exciting. Cricket now with one day blast cricket doesn't have same excitement.

I scored a free kick against Thurcroft Hotel in a cup game to put us 1-0.
This was 1998 and they were a few divisions above us.

    We lost 6-1.

Similarly in the Olympic games where getting a gold medal with the aid of a horse is rated as highly as a gold on a bike.

Not fair that though as the horse does the work for you whereas you have to work the bike.
