…according to the N&S…

If we do get £300k as some are reporting, and all the money from Hayden and Tanner are used to service the loan to Purepay, then I reckon we can kiss goodbye to Day as part of the succession planning as he’ll just seem to want his money back. Allowing us to reinvest by bringing in players of quality (if there are any left this late in the window) will at least be a statement that Day/Purepay are looking to our future. I know that we’ve always been a selling Club but just lately we’ve looked less like a football club and more like a shop.
This possibly explains his performance at Hartlepool.
Not only his performance on Saturday, but also his performances all season.
It's also clear now why he was left out of the team pre-season and also Beech's comments about not signing Whelan to play in central defence.
So not much of a surprise, in hindsight, the real surprise was Hayden leaving.
Tanner's still all about potential and does struggle defensively at times. He has bags of pace, mind you, and has time to learn but I'm not sure he's ready for tier two football every week. It would probably do him better to remain playing regularly every week then move in the summer after developing further. However, if Bristol want to pay the money, it would be foolish not to accept it. Players with potential do not always realise it...
Gone:
“Carlisle United can confirm that defender George Tanner has today joined Bristol City for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.
Tanner, 21, sparked a busy summer for the Blues two pre-seasons ago when he became the first signing of the August 2020 transfer window, joining the club on a two-year deal.
He made 48 appearances for the Cumbrians, scoring three goals along the way.
Blackpool-born Tanner joined Manchester United as a youngster before earning a place on their scholarship programme. He went on to sign his first professional contract with the Red Devils in January 2018.
He enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Morecambe through the first half of the 2019/20 campaign where he made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions.”
