Probably would have gone down as one of our greatest ever seasons had we held our nerve.
We finished with a +33 goal difference that season scoring 82 goals which I think is our highest tally in the top 3 tiers since Tommy Lawton's champions campaign.

    Come on Geoffrey Pike!

They were fun times. Before that I'd never have dreamed of seeing Garry Birtles and Andy Gray playing in the centre of defence!

Must admit, that doesn’t really strike me as a classic Notts kit, thought it’s vastly superior (to these eyes) to the horrible Wrangler pin stripes home kit we had before it.

Wouldn’t be able to resist the green and yellow away strip from the early 80s, though.

If they've done it right, they should have stripes at the back.
On the original "Home Ales" sponsored variation (they'd had Wrangler sponsors the year before on the same design) they had red numbers directly placed on top of the stripes until people complained they couldn't see the numbers, so they then went back to how the 1986/87 had looked with a white patch added on top with a black number (See photo above). I'm pretty certain those who bought the shirt over those two seasons had shirts without a white patch on the back - as it wasn't really part of the shirt - it was something separate that was added for the players to wear. So if they've done it right it should just be stripes.

Oddly enough that was the one design I never bought during the course of the 1982-1992 period.

There's no image of the back but looking at this it looks like there's a black stripe on the back showing through the collar. I've played with the contrast and I can also see another each side of it too so fingers crossed it is authentic! Not 100% sure but looks that way to me.

Surely 1983-84 is more iconic….or the 70’s shirts? Or even 1989 with the “yellow trim”

    What made them pick 1988?

Barnwell’s team was packed full of talent, and underachieved.

He did however sign one Don o’riordan. That year….so maybe that’s the reason.
