    Interest in our players

interest in the Notts County forward continues to intensify.

Lincoln's head of football Jez George and Rotherham's head of recruitment Rob Scott were both in the stands for the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Rochdale at Meadow Lane.

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley and Mansfield boss Nigel Clough were also in attendance for the first-round replay at Meadow Lane where Jake Beesley's last-minute goal sealed victory for Dale.

Lincoln and Rotherham have been linked with a move for Rodrigues who has been in excellent form this season having scored seven goals already this term.

Championship sides Blackpool and Blackburn have also watched the 25-year-old whose stock continues to rise as the result of some impressive performances.

Notts have cultivated a lot of talent in the last year with Callum Roberts and Kyle Wootton also garnering plenty of attention following their moves to Meadow Lane.

Ian Burchnall delivers Notts County verdict as Rochdale end FA Cup the equaliser against Rochdale.

Speaking after the game and asked whether he was concerned whether offers may come in January, head coach Ian Burchnall said: "There might be, but they're our players.

"We don't have to do anything with them. Everybody is happy in there. They are enjoying their football and you can see that from the way that they play.

"We are really ambitious with what we're doing as a club and we're all in a good place.

"I don't think too much about that. I only think about trying to get stronger."

Rodrigues hit excellent form towards the back end of last season as Notts soared into the play-offs only to lose to Torquay United in the semi-finals.

But Rodrigues has continued where he left off after Burchnall deployed him as a second striker to partner Wootton in what has proven to be a masterstroke.

The interest in Rodrigues is unlikely to wane, but Burchnall said the attention was proof that Notts are catching the eye with their performances this season.

Asked about the scouts' interest in Notts, Burchnall said: "We are playing great stuff and I think people recognise that.

"We have a lot of young players and a lot of talented players so it doesn't surprise me at all that the box full of scouts have lots of familiar faces in there.

"That means we are doing something right. We should be pleased with that. It's a credit to the players. Maybe we can shut the doors next time."

Ironic that Leigh Curtis is seemingly trying to actively sell Rodrigues now (or at least hype up the interest), given he absolutely slaughtered him and was still writing him off as a terrible signing as recently as April.

Yep, Curtis and Mace absolutely slaughtered him last year just after NA was sacked, it was embarrassing to watch. They also did similar to IB too, glad they've both proven them wrong.

Everybody has a price and that's fine. The key issue is what happens to the money we get if players are sold. Do the owners go out and buy replacements suitable enough to sustain a promotion push or does it go into the 'long term plan' and our season peters out, or do they hang on to what they've got? It sounds all very nice being sensible but in football you do have to take a chance, a gamble, every now and then. Not to the point it gets silly, but the other extreme is unlikely to take you anywhere good either.

I’m wondering that as well. As fans we’d want the money spent on strengthening the team, but it remains to be seen what the owners philosophy will be. When Ruben goes will the money we get be enough to replace him or will it underwrite some of the considerable money already spent by the owners?

Not wanting to be ungrateful, but I would be slightly disappointed if we didn’t replace Ruben with a quality player.

Naturally I don't want him sold but if he does go it has to be for a tidy sum with a replacement lined up and soon after brought it or its a counterproductive strategy.

Surely the plan will be to acquire more Rubens not splash it all on a replacement ? Otherwise Football Radar doesn't make sense. Obviously this comes with some risk but I think we have to accept this as part of the growing players plan.

I agree. This 'building for the future' thing sounds good, but it has to be the near future and not the distant future.

    I agree with this.

The thing for me though is getting the timing right. It looks like our model will be to buy players in, develop them and sell them on, but also for the club to grow and move up the leagues as well.

I don't yet see a decent replacement for Ruben at the club. So unless Kairo and/or Knight showed some decent development over the next months, it would probably be quite detrimental to sell Ruben in January.

I'm sure it will take time for this model to become sustainable long term, and have a team not hindered too much by player sales.

I would be surprised if we sold Ruben in January. He’s absolutely central to any hopes we have of getting promoted, which is worth more to us than the fee we’d get for him.

He seems happy enough here, he’s obviously too good for this level so hopefully we can say to him give us this season and then we won’t stand in your way in the summer.
