    Gawthorpe Old Boys News Bulletin

Jason Gilchrist has just moved from York to Buxton, now arrived one level above Clitheroe. And he was one of the better ones.

He typifies the whole scene of football and it hopes and failures. HE scored 48 goals in two seasons for the youth team and I watched him several times and he had promise. He went out on loan to Accrington Stanley, amongst others, but it did not work out.
WHen he was released he went to one or two clubs before ending up at South Shields where he was quite prolific with his goalscoring. He went to York in January this year, on loan, and signed for them in July. He has now gone to Buxton and came on as a sub today and my son, who was taking photos there, reported that he looked useful for the short time that he was on the pitch.
Considering that they have just lost their leading goalscorer, who injured his ankle in the FA Cup tie against Morecambe and then saw his ankle collapse on him after he drove his car home and he sustained a broken arm, Jason may well be a very good signing, he knows where the net is! Good luck to him!

We keep talking about "fine margins" and that's the difference between hitting the BIG time, or playing lower league football.

I watched the Norwich v United game last night and only Ronaldo really stood out to me.

Greenwood and Rashford looked ordinary in comparison.

Pace obviously wants to persevere with the Barnfield Academy and the football results look favourable, but I cannot see any of the present group on the verge of our First Team squad.

Beggared if we persevere and beggared if we don't, I'm glad I'm not making that decision.

Back in the day when I used to watch the youth team and reserves regularly, there were half a dozen or so I thought might make it, some got quite close, playing with the first team squad in pre-season friendlies etc but none ever did make it into our first team, Jason was one of them, as Sub says he was a prolific goalscorer in the youth team, literally scoring for fun. I have this idea that he suffered a fairly serious injury early in his career, would that be right ?

He suffered a broken ankle in a pre-season friendly in July 2015 and 6 months later went on loan to Chester but only came on twice as a sub in January 2016 before returning to Burnley.

I wish I was, it would mean I had enough money to own a Premier League football club, at the moment I'm not sure I have enough money to own a Premier League Season Ticket.
