Thread: A big four

    A big four

When Rangers thrashed us 6-1 to leave us with one point from the last 15, I doubt anyone would have expected 10 points from the next six games which looked very tough on paper.

We've now got a great chance in the Xmas run to really cement ourselves in the top six and confirm a challenge for the top four.

    H - St Johnstone (12th)
    H - Livi (8th)
    A - Ross C (11th)
    A - St M (9th)

Livi have picked up recently, as have County, the other pair are on stinking runs. But there's very little between the teams this season and anything less than our best will likely see us beaten again. Six points you'd say is the minimum target, seven or eight would be very pleasing, nine or more and it's time to look out the (covid) passports...

We have a tendency to raise our game and play better against the so called “Top teams” We do not know how to play against the teams that are usually around us in the league. The likes of Livingstone, Ross County, St. MIrren etc who will have their game plan based around sitting deep with every player behind the ball to frustrate us and hit us on the break. We just don’t seem capable of breaking these teams down. Getting the first goal in these up and coming games could well be ***** to getting the tethered points on offer.

Watching the first 42 mins of St Johnstone tonight (until they let in a soft one from a corner), they were very solid defensively, admittedly while offering nothing going forward. We'll find it very, very hard against them.

The question is, can we play smart fitba'? Patience and being clinical when required. We seem ok defensively, so if the front three can fire, it might be a positive run. 8 Pts from the 12 would be a very acceptable return.

The recent performance against Dundee should tell us all we need to know about our expectations. If a teams on a poor run, they just need to look ahead to their next 'Well fixture for some light.... we always seem to accommodate teams on a poor run of results.
