    Football and Boxing

The only two sports I can sit and watch. My dad was a sports enthusiast, he was a boxer, footballer and physical training instructor in the army. He liked most sports like athletics and gymnastics but he loved cricket.
I can't watch racing, be it humans, cars, bikes or horses, things going round and round I find very boring. Cricket is too slow for me, I haven't the patience to sit for hours watching it. I do appreciate the skill, just a pity we are no good at it.
Snooker, Darts and Golf are pastimes not sport.
Tennis, after the Wimbledon fortnight with it's rip off prices nobody gives a toss. It's more of an event than a sport. A bit like Christmas.

Are there any sport's other than football that you enjoy, or even enjoy more? Or any you hate? My dad always said he enjoyed football the most but he was a cricket addict, but most men of his generation liked and played both.
I like to see the ladies play football and cricket for a good loff.

My son likes football but he’s a boxing nut and knows it inside out, both modern day and historical bouts as well.

He himself was a decent kick-boxer in his youth and at over 6ft 4 tall he’s pretty handy.

I agree with all your points Des, what I would say though is that you’re a bit off the mark when it comes to tennis.

Because if the U.K. weather the average person isn’t really aware of what’s going on with tennis, it’s not as visible as it would be if you were in Australia.

It’s a bit like fishing, it’s the most popular participation sport in the U.K. but apart from if you’re by a river in summer you don’t see people doing it.

Tennis is pretty much played away from the public eye and over the last two years the growth in tennis has been massive.

Huge numbers of kids are now playing it which is reflected in my own sales but it’s not only that, we sell tennis in good numbers all year around and this didn’t used to be the case.

Tennis pretty much has to be played indoors for six months or more in this country whereas if we were a warm country you’d see courts all over the place and people hitting all year around.

As a youngster it was football and cricket. I loved playing and watching both. Went to grammar school where it is was rugby. Not interested but gradually got into it. It is great if you are playing in a team with decent players but not so otherwise; it is OK to watch. I don’t go out of my way to watch tennis but it is fun to play. I like swimming and now triathlon probably because I have partaken of them. I am now very picky about what I watch. The only thing I really have no time for is F1. I don’t consider it a sport anyway.

As a kid I used to like World of sport and -aside from Jackie Pallo/Giant Haystacks etc😀-I always really enjoyed rally cross and the winter ski and bob sleigh events. Also used to get into the Olympics and Wimbledon when they were on but less so now as I never seem to get time to watch enough of them to get too involved these days. Never got into watching televised cricket, rugby, horse-racing, darts or snooker ( even if I enjoy playing the last two) but did used to like Australian rules football when Channel 4 used to show it years ago. Used to enjoy watching boxing too but less so now and never got into WWF.

I do like Rugby Q, I forgot that one, but only the internationals. I watch them around the pub. The six nations again next month.
Footballers would do well to take a leaf out of Rugby player's books, the maturity of them make footballers look like spoiled brats.
I went to watch England v Wales a few years ago, the kick of was 15.45. I told my wife I would be back when the game finished. I got back about one thirty in the morning.
There was an FA Cup tie on after the Rugby and after that the pub had booked a band for the night.🙂
