Does last nights result give us fresh optimism in relegation fight ?

Last nights performance was certainly a big improvement on the poor display against Watford in the previous game. Jay Rods equaliser ,was deserved by the end of the night, and allowed us to come away with a share of the spoils. In fact, in the post match summary the Clarets appeared to have most of the plaudits, for the way they battled, compared to their big spending opponents.Rolf seemed to be more concerned with the two disallowed goals, more than the reasons why his team couldn’t score a couple more and go home with the 3 points. The Clarets looked more like the team we all know and love, and by 10 pm fully deserved their draw. It was another dogged performance , not dissimilar to the one at the Emirates, where we got what we deserved.
My question is, despite all the doom and gloom, can we stay up providing we can put play like that, a bit more often ? I think we can , but it’s a big if.We could have done without Newcastle winning last night, but it’s no use relying on other teams. You have to earn the right, by doing it yourselves. If nothing else, we have previous unwanted experience of being in this position before.
Has anyone adopted a brighter outlook since 10 pm last night ? I’d like to know.!!

I still think it's beyond us to avoid relegation, it's too big an ask, but at least we should go down fighting third from bottom.

    Mal

I hope I’m proved wrong but I think
It’s beyond us although Everton are in free fall and they could end up bottom three.

I’m conscious we’re not free scoring and goals win games hence why I think we’re still down.

Still got everything crossed - however rationally I’m thinking if we did survive how we would fair next season based on the squad is at bare bones now , players are out of contract and some can’t stay based on age and performances- so I reckon based on we’d need at least 8 players and lets say at our normal sealing of value of players anywhere between 8-15 million each we’d need between 80-100million to spend on players.

    I’m not sure it’s doable

Despite my previous pessimism, I think that we can. The result against Liverpool will be interesting. A draw will be a good result, provided that we do create chances ourselves.

From what I have seen, Weghorst is far superior in technical ability to Woods. Cornet is excellent and I think he gets the best out of McNeil. JayRod has got the monkey off his back with his 100th.

Barnes is Barnes as we know and love. He is coming back.

We still have the problem of midfield and that is worrying.

17th will be a massive achievement. A win will change the picture, but against whom?

It's a big ask Mal,probably 24 points from 18 games but I was certainly encouraged by last night's second half performance.Whether we can maintain that level of performance on enough occasions is a big unknown, particularly as we would undoubtedly need to keep most of our "big" players fit.BUT I haven't given up hope and getting Ashley back just may be a big bonus if he can find his form.

Have a look at our remaining fixtures list.

We will not win 8 of those.

Last night made me think we can certainly get above Watford and Norwich, but then we have to overtake one of Newcastle or Everton. Newcastle with their new signings are on a roll, 8 pnts from their last 4 games, and abject as Everton appear to be at the moment, surely with Lampard in charge, they'll start to win some games and, even with our game in hand, I cannot see us picking up 6 pnts more than them in the rest of the season. Certainly we can get up to 18th, but anything above that looks beyond us to me.

That's how I see it sink.
