Most Assists in all 4 leagues....?

    Kane Wilson, at Forest Green.

    21 years old.

12 assists in 27 games, 1.71 chances created per game.

PL clubs said to be circling. Released by us in 2020.

He's a full back, and there's no doubt he'd have gotten game time this season. Especially at RB.

Our retention and recruitment has been diabolical in the last few seasons. Good riddance to Luke Dowling.

Your point about needing a decent right back is correct. It would have greater relevance in the case of Wilson were he still playing as...... a right back.

He's currently having a wonderful season on the right side of midfield, a position which affords him the opportunity to get forward and play to his strengths.

He's defensively suspect at right back which probably explains why he spent most of last season on the right side of midfield too.

I'm not too versed up in all things Forest Green, but I actually thought he was a RB with us and is now playing Right Wing Back for them in a similar system to what Val was playing here. At a time where we were (and still are) crying out for creativity.

Even if he has been playing Right midfield, he could have given us another option no?

My point is, he might not have answered any of our problems, but we let him go for free in 2020 and he could have added something to us this season.

It's all about opinions at the time at any club, but I'm sure he would have been told that it was not necessarily the end of the road for him. We had Forss as well, who's done reasonably well at Brentford. But at the end of the day, no club can hold on to players for ever, as it would be both unfair to hold them back and if they stayed, they would be delaying the progress of others.

I'm not too well versed on FGR either beyond their ownership, new stadium or meat free refreshments either to be honest.

So I typed 'Kane Wilson Transfermarkt' into the browser on my mobile phone. His main profile had him listed as right back which he was when with us.

I then clicked onto 'Stats' followed by 'All Seasons' and then looked at his starting positions for the last two seasons. None of them to my memory were at right back.

I watched Wilson a number of times at youth level for us. I thought he was very promising. He also represented England at U18 level but he lacked concentration in a defensive positional sense.

At the end of the day we can't hang onto them forever. He had a decent offer to progress once he left us and it looks like he's taking his opportunity. Fair play to him.

My Albion mate informed me that Pulis almost destroyed this kid by insisting on playing him at leftback.

My mate got talking to Kane's parents at a preseason game at Torquay and his parents said it was killing the lads confidence.

Another managerial masterstroke by the "relegation" specialist.

As said in another thread ..young players were in the first team if good enough in years gone pass
Today....most are happy to sign a pro contract as soon as they can. Difficult to see that changing anytime soon. But compensation should be more reflective of time and energy invested in the youth by the parent club.

Not this ludicrous situation we are in now.
