    Rail strikes

The RMT is one of the worst unions in this countries history, traditionally run by communists. The rail workers, though, must either be stupid or greedy, maybe both, they are well paid compared to many other sectors and to go on strike now when many people are struggling with fuel and other increasing costs is grossly irresponsible. Sadly more now than ever, we live in a ‘me me me me’ society. As usual, the worst off in the country will suffer most. I actually hope that Boris breaks this greedy bunch into submission. Bar stewards!

All greed and more greed in this country. Glad others are taking initiatives to save fuel:

Germany’s parliament has set summer train fares at 9 euros per month in a bid to slash pollution and curb imports of Russian oil by spurring drivers to take public transit.

The initiative takes effect on June 1, with 9 euros covering the cost of all buses, trams, subways, and regional trains, effectively cutting fares by more than 90 percent in some cities.

As for our government -how much more are they making in taxation because fuel and energy costs are sky high! Mrs Non Dom need not worry though and perhaps she will want to send 50 million to the country she loves to save our foreign aid bill!!!

How hard can it be to drive a train FFS!?

It’s not like you’ve got to learn how to turn right or left!

The ability to stay awake is about the most important factor.

I'm a Union rep and given the current climate and compared with the pay rate in other sectors, I must say I am not in agreement with the RMT on this either. Of course we would all like to be paid more money but people should be realistic. When it comes to pay demands I guess a lot depends on the individual companies concerned and how much profit they make for example and what bonuses are given to CEOs etc. There IS a great disparity in the distribution of wealth in this country but actions like this will not help.

The average pay for a train driver is about 48K and even the starting salary is around 30K. No wonder we have no talented nurses on their pittance and what do they get - a f uckin clap!!

    Disgraceful!!!

I honestly believe that rail is the future. The people a hundred years ago got it right first time, trams and railways. Then the trams went and many railways closed, causing congestion and pollution on roads by lorries transporting stuff that went by rail.
We have learnt a lesson sixty years down the line, light rail is being expanded, and some old lines are being reopened. But you can't get a train from Stourbridge directly to Wolverhampton, and you never will again, closing that line and building on it was madness.
As I say, I believe rail is the way forward, too many people on the roads today who I wouldn't trust with a shopping trolley.
But rail has to be made affordable, reliable and clean.
At the moment it's a mess.

Spot on, one of the big problems is reliability of service, I commute into London once a week, the number of cancellations is shocking, mostly due to lack of staff, and woe betide any issues on the line, simply the number of staff at stations, signalling and driving has been cut to a bare minimum, on a weekend if I do go into London I drive, simply so I know I can get home again.. that can’t be right!

I used to travel every day into London but it wore me down and moved up North as a better quality of life. Trains arriving on time are about as inconsistent as Livermore, Robinson, Bartley and a Phillips actually breaking sweat!
