    On this day

In 1892 Newcastle played their first game at SJP.Still known as Newcastle East End they had just moved from their old ground in Heaton. They played Glasgow Celtic in front of a crowd of 6000.

A lot of fans think East End amalgamated with Newcastle West End.Not so,West End went bust.

East End took over SJP then changed their name to Newcastle United, also changed their colours from red and white to the black and white stripes.

    Very interesting.

I always thought it was a merger.
