Thread: Matt Taylor

    Matt Taylor

Was in touch with a diehard Exeter City fan recently and asked him for his views on Matt Taylor. Here's his reply:

"Matt Taylor is an excellent choice as the new Rotherham manager.
He first came to us as a dominating centre half who was part of our two successive promotions from Conference to League 1 between 2008-10.
He then moved away to play for various clubs and was brought back to Exeter by Paul Tisdale as, firstly, Academy Manager, then Assistant Manager. Finally he succeeded Tisdale as manager 4 years ago. City is a stable club who promote internally and Taylor more than justified his promotion. Last season was probably our best ever ,certainly he produced a very attractive attacking team who tied for the title with Forest Green but came second on goal difference................
Taylor is a real no-nonsense Northerner ( from Chorley). He speaks well, very straightforward.
He is a man on the rise and the Rotherham appointment comes at the right time for him. We are disappointed to lose him though it was inevitable as you could see he felt he had taken us as far as he could
    ."

So I’m glad to say that we no longer need a defensive coach

Good choice of manager. More confident of us staying up. Get to January let him change squad enough.

Funnily enough. His standards and his interviews remind me of Paul Warne’s.

That’s why I’m happy with him.

Alan Stubbs was a cracking, well respected defender but when he was manager our defence had more holes in it than Swiss cheese so MT being a defender doesn't necessarily mean we will improve at the back

Like Warne and Barker being forwards remembered for their work rate rather than ball skills…..hmmmmmm
