    The Alternative Xmas Song Thread.

I have a whole host of songs that remind me of the days when I loved Xmas that aren’t necessarily actual Xmas songs.

One of my all my all times faves from 74 by Steeleye Span.....Gaudette sung live.

That is the original Christmas song - often considered the oldest known Christmas carol, from the 15th century I believe. The words in English are: Rejoice, Christ is borne of the Virgin Mary, rejoice.

Jingle Bells isn’t a Christmas song at all. It was written for American Thanksgiving which is in November but is now associated with Christmas.

And the Hallelujah Chorus is also associated with Christmas even though it’s about Easter.

Stop The Cavalry wasn’t written as a Christmas song; probably better had it not been written at all.

Remember the Ramones ‘Sheena Is A Punk Rocker’? That should be changed to ‘Santa is a Punk Rocker’.
