Game aff! Fir Park succumbs to the freeze

Game off! Motherwell v St Mirren postponed as Fir Park fails in the big freeze. - LINK

"We still have loads of the stand frozen (so no running water or heating), and those parts which have started thawing have caused extensive flooding damage across the stadium"...AB

We do not need this! It’s going to cost us dosh as any rearranged game will most likely be midweek.and will not have such a good attendance, especially as this is the first game back and there is usually a lift in numbers after a break. Then there is the cost of whatever damage has occurred, even with insurance cover it will still cost us. And on the playing side it is really frustrating for players as well as fans. Just crap all round.

So predictable. If there is another top flight professional football club that has had as many home matches called off because of issues with the stadium than us then I’d be amazed.

If it’s not the pitch that’s frozen then it’s waterlogged. If the pitch is fine then the stands are flooded, or the floodlight pylons are catching fire or generators are blowing up or it’s structural damage after a few hours of high winds. What will it be next? subsidence?

It is honestly amateurish and tinpot and we really didn’t need this just now as we need points on the board and to try and build a bit of momentum.

No doubt we will now have to spend money to repair the “extensive” damage to the stadium which will also impact on any spending budget we had for January.

Totally pathetic and it’s things like these that actually make me hate being a Motherwell fan because this only happens to us.

    AGREE 100%.
For years n years we’ve had games called off for ‘coldness’. Who the faff is our facilities manager? It’s not as if the -8 temperatures weren’t forecast! How can this happen repeatedly… incompetence is the word that comes to mind 😡🤬

As with everything, it's a balance.

We can gut ongoing costs by moving to a new stadium - which might hurt the team in the short-term and annoy some fans.

We can limit unexpected costs by preemptively investing in upkeep. We did that with the pitch this year, stadium before and, surprise surprise, people moaned about that as well.

The last time we had the pipes issue was more than a decade ago...was it worth not investing in them since then to put that money into the team that reached three cup finals and X high finishes in the league? Or was it a waste investing what we did for the sake of a decade of no burst pipes when we could have put even more into the team?

I've no idea what the answer is, it just shows that in everything we're walking a fine line and there is no chance someone won't have something to moan about.

Personally I put this in the 'things happen' bucket and shrug... there's more important stuff to panic about.

Anyone who uses Twitter and follows the clubs account will be alarmed to see the videos posted by Alan Burrows today. They show a significant amount of flooding in the stands, the concourse areas and the toilets and the Gym is also badly flooded.

I think there is little to no chance of Friday nights game going ahead and there will be a significant repair bill for the club which hopefully the insurance covers.

If Friday night is indeed off then our next fixture will be a trip to Ibrox, which after the run of fixtures we’ve had is really not what we need at a time when we need to start building confidence and momentum.

On the plus side at least other results have gone our way today with Kilmarnock losing at Tynecastle and Ross County losing at home against St.Johnstone which keeps both of them below us.

I'm neither a repair man or weather expert but like you I'd be amazed if we can turn that round in the space of a week (before Xmas at that).

I guess given our next two are away we could try for a sticking plaster or partial solution to get the game on then use into the new year to fix things properly - if that'd possible.
