    Hs2

I’ve said on here before, under the Tories HS2 won’t get beyond Birmingham. The bit currently being built benefits the London economy more than Brum and they have no intention of watering that down by taking it any further north. The news that it has been “delayed” is more bad news for the red wall. Many commentators are suggesting that the delay will be more than 10 years. I’m suggesting that after that time the maintenance costs for the Smoke to Brum bit will be so high that the rest will just be ditched.

Given the gradual diminishing of the project they will decide to build a HS2 station at Watford and that will be as far north as it will go.

You wont get used to the fact that the north, in regards to the south, is far less important economically. Its a life fact, stop moaning, groaning hating, its just the way it is. It doesnt deserve paranoia.

What does Cumbria produce? But you want a railway line?

We used to have the biggest goods yard in Europe and passenger trains north to Edinburgh, Glasgow (direct and via Dumfries), South to Preston and beyond, sooth west to Barrow and all stations in between, South east to Leeds and East to Newcastle.

Presumably Cumbria's vast tracts of farm land produce fuck all. Barrow produces ships / submarines etc. There are
plenty of successful businesses all over the county. Various parts of Cumbria appear near to the top of 'Best Quality Of Life' surveys / polls etc.

But there are some buffoons elsewhere that see such as 'Coronation Street' as representing the entire north of England. That's OK because we do not want it spoiled by folk from other areas arriving in vast numbers, except for holiday visits.

Shuffling pieces of paper around and making money out of the process of the legal technicalities of take-overs does nothing for the economy. Actual industry (producing goods and services) is the heart of the economy. Without that The Square Mile would not exist. We could do without the Square Mile, it produces nothing. But we cannot do without trade and industry, which is more in evidence the further away from the south-east of the UK that you go.

HS2 is a bloody nonsense. Its ok for countries like Spain and France with long distances between population centres but not the UK which requires a different model to efficiently connect major population centres that are in close proximity to each other.

The days of trains moving most of our goods is long over. Cumbria is a major tourist destination. Keep up Frank.
