Northampton Town v Mansfield Town, Sixfields, League Two, 7:45pm Tuesday 14th March

What is our optimum result from this? Of these two teams Northampton Town are in marginally the better position but Mansfield Town look the stronger side to end the season.

I will take a draw, making the total points value of the match to be 2, rather than 3.

A draw for me too. Other games might be difficult for us:

    Stevenage v Crewe
    Sutton v Grimsby

We could finish the evening in third with Sutton up into the playoffs, if results go against us, however Crewe are draw specialists and haven’t lost in the last 6. Sutton are on a roll.

Northampton Town have scored no more than one goal in any of their last 8 League Two matches. They have 3 wins from their last 11 home matches in League Two. In the last 10 matches between these teams Northampton Town have won once.

As for Stevenage let's hope that Crewe at least give them a good, strenuous, physical battle with no more than a goal in it, the outcome being in doubt until the final whistle.

Crewe have already got more points than the team which finishes 23rd will get, so they they will not have the galvanising attitude that fighting for League Two survival would produce. But finishing in their current 17th place would be a job loser for some players and coaching staff, so let's consider that individual self preservation is a motivating factor tonight.

    Nudge nudge, wink wink.

Stevenage with most of the play, Crewe difficult to break down and “injured” whenever possible. Stevenage put their keeper under physical pressure early on but nothing since. One shot each on target sums it up.

David Amoo is on the Crewe Alexandra bench.
