    Harry Belafonte

Just read about the passing of Harry Belafonte. May not mean too much to us in the UK other than his "banana boat song" but was a key figure in the American Civil Rights movement and inspired so many other Black Americans, particularly in the fields of cinema and entertainment. At 96, a good innings but yet another cultural icon leaves us. RIP

Loved his calypso music. Didn't he record "There's a hole in my bucket" as well? RIP Harry

Sad news indeed, saw a documentary on Sidney Poitier and they were very close and indeed pioneers in the civil rights movement in the US but in different ways while being good friends

I thought he died years ago
I remember my mom and dad having Mary's Boychild that they played at Christmas. Boney M did a cover version.
