🏆Fans' & Players' Player of The Season: Macaulay Langstaff

Macaulay Langstaff has been named our 2022-23 Fans’ and Players' Player of the Season.

The two trophies, which will be presented to him by Alex Reedtz and Les Bradd shortly before kick-off on Saturday, add to a growing collection for the Teessider, who won the Vanarama National League Player of the Month award an unprecedented three times this season.

Langstaff’s 41 goals so far, remarkably all of which have come from open play, mean he’s also destined to finish the season as our top scorer having broken Tom Keetley’s 92-year club record of 39 – while he has also bettered Ricky Miller’s 40 goal-haul to set a National League record.

But his popularity doesn’t only stem from his goals return. Langstaff has been hugely influential in our work off the ball this season, pressing intently from the front from first minute to last in each of his 45 appearances so far.

A joint-statement from our board of directors and head coach Luke Williams reads: “When Macaulay first arrived last summer having performed so impressively for Gateshead, we knew we had signed a good player – but we could never have envisaged how successful his debut season would be.

“To have broken so many records is the stuff of dreams for both him and us and it’s no surprise that his achievements have been recognised by his team-mates and supporters in equal measure.

“We’d like to congratulate Macaulay on this fantastic recognition and look forward to watching him in our forthcoming play-off campaign.”

Langstaff claimed 46.6% of the supporter vote, pipping Matt Palmer (27.8%) and Ruben Rodrigues (10.2%) to the prize.

Going by the opinion and debate on this board and twitter over the last few days, I'm surprised the margin of victory was as large as it is. It would be nice to think that the top three will all be in the running for it again next season (very wishful thinking).

Nearly half of all the votes, I'm calling it a 'landslide'

Well done Macca, 2nd and 3rd were also right in my book.

He was the only choice really. If we somehow manage to hold onto him for a few more seasons he might even catch up with Les Bradd.

I’d argue that you’re 2.9% from it being a landslide….but I won’t! Well done laddo, and well done Macca, thoroughly deserved 🙂
