What a story. Picked up as a schoolgirl tee-nager by Ike Turner and only sang at his weekend gigs. After leaving school she joined the band full time. Married Ike, Had hits. My favourite from that period is "Dust my broom". Then Ike got "handsy" and she walked out. That led to her being "cancelled" long before the term gained its current meeting. She moved to Europe and had collaborations with Bowie, Bryan Adams, Clapton and Rod Stewart amongst others. Went on to be the the female act selling the most concert tickets and well over 200 million records.

A genuine musical colossus. RIP Anna Mae Bullock.

It's always sad to see the passing of a musical star especially someone with the unmistakeable sound of Tina Turner. But hardly a legend. Let's be kind and say she was, like many before her, an acquired taste.

Saw her at Wembley Arena on the Private Dancer tour, supported by Bryan Adams before he went commercial with Robin Hood ****e. Have to say that Bryan was more the star of the show, but still a good night had by all. That said I sort of agree with Gunt - a fine performer, but not quite legendary in the sense of Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross or Billie Holliday. Still each to their own - if we all revered the same thing the world would be a poorer place for it.

Why? I'm just expressing an opinion. I disagree that she was some kind of superstar that many people make her out to be. It's a matter of taste. If God forbid Alanis Morrissete passed away then to me thaat would be the passing of a genuine legendary female singer also with a unique sound. With that said God bless her and RIP.

I can't find any record of that, GP, although there was a rumour to that effect.
