    The Transformation of Big Joe

No need to go into the details as we all know.

I doubt there'd be many at all who wouldn't have sold him-and at a massive loss, too-if offered the chance.

From hopeless (and that's being generous) to almost undroppable and a Brazil call-up.

Can anyone think of a player who started so badly only to come good?

(and there's definitely a thread to be made for players who made the opposite journey )

In a word: no. Joselu comes closest. Joe cost 40 million. I remember thinking I would accept 4 million to get rid. I wouldn’t sell him for 80 now.

Just thinking - Rafa was right about Joselu but wrong about Joe, in the end.

Guessing Rafa didn't rate him as a striker as he was labelled at the time - and he'd have been right cause he wasn't and is not one. Clearly a midfielder as we gave seen.

Probably a lot more politics going down at the time with Ashley we weren't party to.

Really can't think of anyone coming close. Almiron would have been in the conversation had his form lasted more than several games.
