I guess 2 years is the obvious length for a new player in terms of risk vs reward (protection).
You can naturally create transition with early contract extensions where appropriate.
Every player who have signed contracts this close season apart from Jim O'Brien have a 2 year contract.
Crowley, McGoldrick, Randall, Jones, Cameron, Rawlinson and Slocombe.
Add in players who still have 2 years to go Palmer, Austin and Langstaff.
That is almost half of the squad.
I always understood that it was considered that ideally players contracts should be split evenly between 1, 2 & 3 years to allow smooth transition from 1 season to the next.
Only Morias has 3 years to run.
