Thread: Vile's Academy

  1. #1

    Vile's Academy

They will be pleased know our academy has retained grade one status.....

    ....what's the point?

We ought to "do a Brentford"

We’d be in a mess without our academy. Mainly because we’ve just sold our academy product O’Shea for £7m. I imagine Griffiths will fetch us a fair bit from Newcastle too.

Birmingham would be a memory of a football club without the Bellingham sale.

Which academy did Karlan Grant come from?

The problem with the academy is we get a player not a team. Probably one player good enough for the first team squad every how many years? It’s not enough.

I see Jimmy Morrison has joined the Scottish set up but will still be retained at the Albion academy for the guidance they shall need.
Glad he is keeping his connections with the club. One for the future me thinks..
Good luck to you Jim boy!

    Exactly

Yes we have made a few quid on DOS but who before? Saido? We haven't yet seen a penny from Barcelona for the kid Louie have we?

How much has the academy cost us during this time whilst we've also p155ed money up the wall on flops like Diangana (who I hope proves me wrong this season) and Karlan Grant?

Spend the money on a top notch scouting network like Brentford do. I'm not sure but I'm betting Brighton don't have an academy either?

100% totally agree with you! The highest paid salary in my opinion at the club should be a recruitment director who sits on the board. To think we have wasted 30 million on Grady and Grant is shocking! We wouldn’t realistically get half that back! I could go on and on with long contracts and Dike who I would bet - will get another injury when he returns one Xmas!

Brentford are a club to admire and so too are Brighton!

Asante was well worth the 300K but never in a million years will he be a 20 plus goal scorer like Gayle was in his prime!

£2m a season for an academy...it funds itself. There's been a lot of smaller sales like Leko (£1.1M), Harper (£500k), Ferguson (£900k) and the lad this season for £1m. Add that to Saido and now O'Shea, it's actually made us a lot of money. We have Taylor, Gardner Hickmanl, Griffiths, Palmer and Ashworth supplementing the side this season.

With the price of young English talent it's incredibly foolish not to grow your own. Brighton have a strong academy that produced Ben White. Brentford have a lot of competitors for talent so they are in a different situation to us but if you look over the fence to Fulham, they have produced some great young talent in recent years.

We should just buy well AND have an academy.

What's your source for £2million a season for an academy?

It was in an article a few years back in the E&S. I won’t be able to find that now.
