    Bilko

What a fantastic TV programme 🤣

Most of the episodes were 20 to 30 years old when I was watching them in the 70’s and 80’s but were still quality.

If ever a person was born to play a part it was Phil Silvers, his methodology and delivery was superb.

Watching some clips today and still made me laugh, all good clean humour as well.

The first joke in this clip about “betting leather” is superb, just the sort of wit I tend to use myself.

Bilko was a must watch in our house in the 50's and 60's and my Mom and I had to be quiet while it was on while Dad pissed himself laughing. As a kid a lot of the humour went over my head but as I got older I got it. We used to have to watch Get Smart as well, another American comedy.

Totally agree. As a youngster I used to regularly watch the ‘Phil Silvers Show’ with mum and dad. We all loved it. It would be watchable and extremely funny if it was shown on TV today. Far superior to what is now considered as comedy.

Some of that period wit was quick, snappy and funny. I loved Groucho Marx as a kid.

Top Cat was an animated spin off of the Phil Silvers show and the Doberman character was voiced by the actor who played him on Bilko. The BBC ran every episode of Phil Silvers a few years back late at night I remember catching an episode in which a young and not nearly as famous Elvis Presley was in it.

You know, despite having watched Bilko as a kid and Top Cat having been one of my favourite cartoons, I never put 2 and 2 together! Now you've pointed it out its obvious..

Brilliant and would put a lot of today's 'comedy' to shame.
