Rheged is a great place to watch a film.Ta for the warning about Avatar, that’s off the list.
I have been on a bit of a low in the last week, so my son, who had come to stay for a couple of days gave it his best shot at cheering me up.
His first attempt was to sit me down to watch Avatar, the Way of Water. This was something of a disaster. I really enjoyed the first one, but this didn't work for me. it was too long, really, really long. It spent far too long showing off the truly wonderful animation and too little thought on the story. It seemed to think showing pointless cruelty was ok cos it wasn't real. For a film to work you have to believe in the story and if you believe in it then the cruelty hurts. I cried.
So a bit of a failure there but undeterred the next day we went to Rheged to see the latest Indiana Jones. I really enjoyed it. Much better than the last one, it was back to the all-action rip-roaring fun. Whenever the theme music played you couldn't help but smile. A couple of times you could see the join, where Harrison Jones stopped and the stunt double took over, but it really didn't seem to matter, the story (which was ridiculous but fun) took you along so quickly, you really didn't have time to think about it.
I don't know if I am going to make the effort for Mission Impossible, it's never really appealed to me but with some of it filmed in Cumbria it's tempting to give it a go.

Rheged has enough leg room for my dodgy knees, which is rare in the cinema.
I like to go for the live links with theatres, don't often go for the cinema but it's a good venue, with food and plenty of parking.
Alan Arkin died recently, and i watched an old film of his in memory, it had a big effect on me as a youngster. Its light hearted, funny, spiritually uplifting, real, and dramatic, its on you tube for free. Its called " the heart is a lonely hunter", enjoy, Arkins performance was outstanding.
You lowness will lift.
