    Left back

Slightly worrying that we seem to be back at Chelsea for Maatsen on loan , by that I mean not that potentially he could come but that unless we’re going to trust C Taylor and play him we don’t seem to have other irons in the fire

Weve more wingers than you can shake a stick at mind

Just think if we haven’t got someone in place who n next two days - competent enough to play at this level it’s a big mistake - in my view anyway in the two games we’ve played that position has cost us and teams just exploit weakness at this level.

The negative for me is in the fact Taylor isn’t in the squad so he feels worthless - to build him up again may not be doable.

I reckon he's off to Dirty Weeds army88.

I hope Maatsen comes back and quick. Mr Pace needs to jump into the overdraft and get him bought.

Which I’d said previously Bt but my point is if Chelsea say no to loan to buy we have spent the last 8 weeks without finding a suitable left back/ left backs to buy in the window.

The Leeds rumours having been going on a month at least so VK must have known he wasn’t in his plans - Vinny may shock us yet but since the Man City linked full back died on it’s A—e we haven’t pursued one.

You have played footy at a decent level army88, I can't understand why the majority of professional footballers can't adapt to different positions. Paul Madeley could play anywhere, surely we have a player who can fill the left wing berth in either a 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 formation. Ben Mee could and he's not a bad centre-back either.

To a point Bt I think your right - as I slotted in at c back occasionally and found it easier tbh than centre mid as whole game is in front of you and more time to pick passes etc or just get rid of the ball.

I do think though that in todays flexible speedy set ups positioning is an issue for a centre back for example at left or right back.

Also in a Sean Dyche side more emphasis and time was attributed to defending as we simply didn’t have the ball enough in games - Now VK expects us to have the ball for large parts of the games - so imo anyway there is more asked of players out of position.

I would have to say Bt I wouldn’t like to
Have played full back when I was a central
Player - not saying I wouldn’t have done it of course.

The worry is we knew we were promoted weeks before the end of last season and seem to be rushing around last minute to plug the known gaps.On Sunday the team playing was not as good as the team that won the championship .
Have to trust in Vincent to sort it.

    Welcome OL.

What I do know for a fact is that VK has forgotten more than I have ever known about football, so I am happy to trust his judgment.

Being a lefty myself I take an interest in left-sided footballers. As we all know, there are significantly less of them than right-sided. That makes for a smaller pool and higher demand.

We all perhaps assume that all footballers are just waiting for the call from VK and are tripping over themselves to come to Burnley.

I seriously doubt that is the reality.

Bearing in mind the success of recruiting new players, it may well be that players have been identified and talked to but they do not want to join us. Nowadays it is clear that players have a big say in who they want to play for.

Reading he doesn’t want to leave Outwood - which brings us back to my original post where we have left it to the final day, and if he doesn’t come we’re fecked unless we keep Taylor and importantly play him.
