    Rhine Cruise advice please...

Neither myself nor my wife have ever done a cruise.

No special reason it just does not float my particular boat.

However, pre-Covid we were in Cologne doing the Christmas markets and one of those fancy River Cruisers was about to dock and we both said the boat looked great.

We are thinking April, any advice most welcome.

We've done Amsterdam-Basle with Viking. I would recommend them.

We have done the Danube and the Rhine and always enjoy ourselves. Certainly think that a river cruise is a good started because you generally visit more places and are more or less in the towns. There are also far less people than on an ocean cruise.
You will either love it or hate it, there are really no in-betweens.

The wife has said we are doing Amsterdam-Basle and that's the end of the argument. I'll tell her what you said sinkov, she is thinking TUI but I don't know who are the best operators.

We've been on two Viking river cruises and two Viking sea cruises, Mrs S won't go with anyone else, and she's hard to please.

I'm going with Viking mon ami. Over the years I feel I have got to know Mrs S very well reading your comments about her and her opinion is good enough for me!

You should be OK mon ami, they arrange everything, flights etc, they're good to deal with, we've never had a problem and their standards are high. My advice when you ring would be to tell them you want the best cabin you can afford and let them guide you as to which one to book. They know where the best cabins are and which are best avoided.

The thought of a sea cruise abhors me but I must admit a Rhine cruise has always been tantalising, a floating hotel with a bar sailing through spectacular scenery and stopping at scenic towns en route. You'd have to fork out a bit extra for an outside cabin though (assuming they have indoor ones like on ferries).
