Would be one of the first names in an all time England XI, if not THE first.

Never played at Meadow Lane (unless he did with the Man Utd reserves) but did manage Preston here 1974. I saw him in the flesh when he came to present the Junior Magpies with an award at home to Portsmouth 1985.

THe news of that tragedy was one of those times that I remember where I was and what I was doing. I raced home to tell my Dad who put the radio on.

Only saw him the once on one of the very few occasions I went to a Florest match not involving Notts.

Watching him (on TV) throughout the World Cup and the subsequent European Cup final were magical moments. Thanks for the memories, a quiet giant of football. RIP.

After Munich, Man U could do no wrong and Bobby Charlton was their main talisman once the club were back in business. He literally had no enemies and combining his achievements at Man U with his England career, it's hard to think of a player who won the hearts of every football fan like he did. Man U became most people's favourite second team after their own club.
So what on earth went wrong that Man U fell from grace in modern times?

Although an owd fogey m'sen this era happened a bit before me.

What strikes me about the old B&W footage is the awesome power of his "rocket" shots.

    R.I.P. Sir Bobby.
