    Team for Saturday

So all being well, it looks like Saturday’s game will be the first one in a while where, with a number of players returning, there’ll be a few first-teamers left out the squad.

    What would you pick?

Working on the assumption that Chicksen and Bostock are back but only fit enough for the bench, I would expect something along the lines of the below, with Bostock replacing Gosling (hoping he’s fit enough to start) on the hour.

    Slocombe

    Macari Baldwin Cameron

    Nemane Gosling O’Brien Jones

    Crowley McGoldrick

    Langstaff

Subs: Stone, Brindley, Chicksen, Adebayo, Bostock, Austin, Morais.

    Left out: Rawlinson, Tipton, Randall.

Agree with most of that. I'd personally put in Austin from the start instead of JOB

Personally I would go for Bostock instead of Gosling if he is fit, he knows our system better.

Doubt LW will play Gosling from the start, maybe bring him on later. JOB & Austin will start IMO

I agree this is the most likely.

Now we seem to have solved the RB problem, all the focus is on CM.

What are we trying to replace? The main thing is getting on the ball and working our system. We don't need defence splitting passes, just lots and lots of passes and permanent availability there.

O'Brien did well last night and amazingly is much better now than when he played with Doyle for NA
To play with him? Gosling didn't look quite ready. I believe Baldwin could do it but why disrupt the backline on top of CM?
Austin hasn't taken enough playmaking responsibility in his CM run-outs, so for me (and I don't think LW will do this) the best option would be Crowley. He would get on the ball / He's not a defensive zero for a small, creative player - he has a go / we can replace him at Inside-forward / we'd still get an attacking spark from him, only from deeper

If Bostock is fit I think he will start with JOB(who over the last few games has proved he isn't finished yet) and if no effects from yesterday Gosling will get the last 30 minutes probably for Bostock and Austin last 20 for JOB.
I would put Randall on the bench ahead of Chicksen and would prefer to see him v Bradford when Jodi is away.
Thought last night he looked decent in parts and he will look even better linking up with our better players .. as long as he's fit which seems to be his main issue.
I also thought Brindley looked good when he came on, he is a very frustrating player though because he looks like a Rolls Royce on the pitch pace to burn, can tackle and good on the ball but doesn't seem to push himself and appears to just do enough - maybe its his style.
If he had Rawlinson's attitude he would be playing regular Championship

I can’t see him starting Gosling.
You could see his lack of match fitness last night.
I’d guess 45 minutes at the most.

Watching our football not being able get beyond the back 3 yesterday, I thought about what a few of us (Samagundi?) said about Crowley filling in for Palmer for a while. We desperately need someone to show for the ball, receive it under pressure, pass it on and move to receive again.
LW could have sold Dan on being the lower league Luka Modric. He has a good relationship with Bostock, he could have had a 'unit meeting' about that! I still think this is our best bet to get us thru to January. Midfielders simply have to get on the ball, it's a non-negotiable, especially in a system like LWs.

We'd get DC's creative input earlier and more often and we have others for the inside-forward role.

I agree, i stated this as an option on another thread. We are crying out for someone with a good engine to create space taking the ball from the back 3, also we are so top heavy at the top of pitch that when we lose possession our defenders are so exposed. This is part of the reason why the wide defenders won't take as many risks playing the ball forward
