    Belgium VAR error

🚨 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: historical decision has been made as game will be 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 after VAR error!

Belgium side Genk have won their appeal against a VAR error and their league match with Anderlecht will now be replayed.

Anderlecht won the game 2-1 in December. But Genk’s Yira Sor saw his first-half goal ruled out after following up on Bryan Heynan’s missed penalty.

Sor was penalised for encroachment, two Anderlecht players were equally as guilty. This means the penalty should have been retaken rather than the goal simply ruled out.

Genk took their case to the Disciplinary Council for Professional Football, who ruled the match must be replayed.

But VAR wasn’t at fault, it was not applying the existing rule correctly. All VAR did was prove that players from both teams had encroached into the penalty area. Inefficient officials yet again.

Which is something that football’s had since the first ball was kicked in anger.

Replaying games for things like this is a dangerous precedent

We wouldn’t have won the World Cup in 1966 for a start

I wonder if the English FA will ever have the balls to force a replay if challenged by a court decision? Thing is these cases will cost thousands in legal fees.
