So that would mean more chance of us landing a plum tie, should we progress to the round in which the big boys enter, though it is 13 years since we got that far when we played Wolves away in 2011 when Craig Short was in charge.
Kiwomya was in charge when we met Wolves again a few years later in the FL Trophy, which we won on pens. The brick incident was the Craig Short match, which we lost 2-4 in extra time after Lee Hughes had looked like he'd won us the game before they equalised with a late pen on 83.
The pundits on talkSport this morning were complaining that seeding teams was unfair on the smaller teams and gives them less chance to progress, but at our level it's all about getting a plum tie, which this change considerably increases the chances of. So I would hope our approach to this competition next season will be to go for it rather than take the attitude we have with cups previously, which was perfectly understandable in the FA Trophy and FL Trophy but I'd expect us to take the FA Cup seriously at least and the League Cup now seems much more worth the effort.
From reading the various news reports on the seedings, it is purely to stop teams in the champions league playing those in the Europa League to avoid fixture pile up.
Teams outside of the champions/Europa league won't be seeded (Chelsea could play Villa). Also 2 teams in the Champions league could still draw each other in the 3rd round.
Unless I've read it wrong.
